North Avenue Resurfacing Project

On 6/11/2025, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) awarded Everlast Blacktop the construction contract for the resurfacing of North Ave between Oak Avenue and Lake Street. This segment of North Avenue qualifies for federal funding through the Surface Transportation Program. The work includes pavement resurfacing, spot concrete removal and replacement, ADA compliant crosswalks, landscape restoration and pavement marking. A highlight of the project will be a new on-street, striped bike lane along the south side of North Avenue between Eastern Ave and Prospect.

8/15/2025

  • Paving along North Ave is expected to be complete on 8/15/25.
  • Final landscaping and pavement markings are tentatively scheduled for the weeks of 8/18 and 8/25, respectively. Please use caution while traveling through the work zone during these operations.

8/5/2025

  • Concrete work is complete on both the north and south sides of North Ave. The week of 8/4/2025, wood forms will be removed and all holes adjacent to the new walk will be backfilled.
  • The entire roadway has been milled and pavement patching/structure adjustment work also has begun.
  • Paving operations are expected to start during the week of 8/11/2025.
  • Everlast Blacktop has formally filed for an extension with IDOT and that request is currently being processed. The Village anticipates this extension to be granted.

IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING THE 1ST DAY OF SCHOOL

  • Prior to Monday, 8/11/2025, all the new concrete corners will be open and the adjacent gaps will be backfilled to ensure safe walking paths to school.
  • The median separating North Ave with the Bartlett Elementary bus lane is complete and this week's pavement patching will allow for safe bus access and student drop-off/pickup.
  • Construction activities, including asphalt paving, will take place while school is in session. The contractor is aware of the new school schedule and will avoid the high traffic areas during the morning and afternoon rush periods.

7/18/2025

  • Concrete removal and replacement work began Monday, 7/14/2025. The intent is to complete all concrete work on the south side before moving to the north side.
  • Median work in front of Bartlett Elementary is also underway to ensure intrusive work around the school is minimal once school starts.
  • Contract completion (weather dependent) is August 1, 2025. However, due to a delay in the contract award, this date is subject to change upon IDOT approval.

Annual General Maintenance Activities

Each year, the Village of Bartlett undertakes a series of general maintenance projects that help to improve and maintain the village owned right-of-way. These project locations are dynamic, and the public works department strives to address the areas of need while also taking a systematic approach to effectively move through town. These general maintenance projects include:

  • Concrete Replacement (by contractor) – addresses issues in sidewalk and curb in various locations throughout the village.
  • Sidewalk Cutting (by contractor)– addresses small displacements (1/2” to less than 2”) between squares of sidewalk that do not warrant removal and replacement.

           7/18/2025: Project is Complete

6/26/2025: Hard Rock Concrete Cutters are currently in Country Place, north of Newport Lane. Upon finishing, they will continue on to Amherst Drive, Ridings East, Bravo Point, and Charter Oaks neighborhoods as budget allows. The tentative completion date for this project is 7/3/25.

6/20/2025: Hard Rock Concrete Cutters have finished in the Fairfax Commons/Fairfax Crossing neighborhoods and are currently in Country Place, north of Newport Lane. Upon finishing, they will continue on to Amherst Drive, Ridings East, Bravo Point, and Charter Oaks neighborhoods

6/5/2025  - Hard Rock Concrete Cutters began in the Harmony Grove and Bartlett Reserve neighborhoods on Thursday, 6/4. Upon finishing, they will continue into the Fairfax Commons and Fairfax Crossing neighborhoods.

  • Pavement Marking (by contractor) – addresses faded lane markings,  pedestrian crosswalks, and bicycle lanes/crossings.
  • Pavement Crack Sealing (by contractor) – fills cracks in asphalt pavement to help prevent further cracking from the freeze thaw cycle.

8/15/2025 - SKC Construction began crack sealing on Friday, 8/15/25. They will start in the Brewster Creek Business Park and move counterclockwise through town addressing various streets along the way. This is a moving operation and is fairly non-intrusive.  Please use caution while passing through the work zone.

8/5/2025 - Public Works staff will be meeting with the contractor this week to schedule a start date. Crack sealing operations will take place in various locations throughout the Village and is expected to last no more than 2 weeks.

  • Pavement Preservation (by contractor) – spraying rejuvenation/preservation products on asphalt pavements (both roadway and bike paths) to help prolong the life of the pavement.
  • Cycle Trimming of Parkway Trees – all year long, the streets division of public works trims parkway trees to address low hanging limbs and promote healthy growth.
