🚰 Water Quality Update: Lead Sampling Information

During recent routine sampling, the Village of Bartlett identified elevated lead levels in the drinking water of some homes and buildings in our community. We have already notified the impacted residents and provided them with pitcher filters. In accordance with EPA regulations, the Village of Bartlett has sent out a notice of lead exceedance to all Bartlett utility customers.

Important facts to know about your water:

• The Source is Safe: Bartlett’s source water, Lake Michigan, contains no detectable amounts of lead.
• How Lead Enters Water: Lead enters drinking water primarily through the corrosion of household plumbing materials—like lead-based solder, brass fixtures, and lead service lines—rather than from the utility’s distribution system.
• Older Homes: Homes built before 1986 are more likely to have these types of plumbing materials.
• Our Progress: The Village of Bartlett is committed to ensuring safe drinking water and currently has only 12 remaining lead service lines. We will eliminate all of these remaining lines by the end of 2026.
