A message from Village President Gunsteen: “First, I want to say how grateful I am that this second severe storm in just two weeks did not result in any injuries. My thoughts are with everyone who experienced damage, but thankfully our community remained safe.

I also want to thank our Police Department, Fire Protection District, Public Works crews, ComEd, and all of our emergency response teams who worked through the night restoring power, clearing fallen trees, and keeping our community moving forward. Their dedication and hard work are truly appreciated.

Mother Nature certainly has a strange way of testing our patience and our strength. Two tornado-type storms in less than two weeks would challenge any community. Just as we were one day away from completing cleanup from the last storm, we were faced with another significant event.

But if there’s one thing we’ve seen time and time again, it’s the resilience of Bartlett. We will once again work together, get the cleanup completed, and have our community ready to enjoy our Fourth of July festivities without concerns about downed trees or power outages.

Assessments indicate that last night's weather system hit north of Stearns Road and east of Route 59. The hardest hit areas are the Downtown, Longford, Timber Ridge areas, and Walnut Hills subdivision. The intersection of North Avenue and Oak Avenue remains closed at this time. Please use alternate routes and avoid the area to allow our crews the necessary space to work safely.

We ask residents to please exercise extreme caution in areas affected by damage and downed trees. We will announce when a special brush collection will be done in the affected areas at a later time.

• Power Outages: Report directly to ComEd via their Outage Map website: https://www.comed.com/outages/experiencing-an-outage/outage-map. ComEd crews are responding to reported outages and currently estimate power to be restored by 10 p.m. tonight.
• Cooling/Warming Centers: Visit the State of Illinois website: https://www.illinois.gov/services/service.warming-center.html to locate the nearest open facility.
